SUSTAINABILITY

At The Three Compasses, we try to ensure everything we do has a positive environmental and social impact. We're not perfect but we're making small changes where we can to be a little bit better every day.

IT’S HISTORY

Our pub has been a landmark on the High Street since Georgian times. It's rural position right next to the New River attracted passing trade from London and drinkers could fish and play cricket in the grounds while enjoying a pint and a day out in the country.

In 1896, as part of the urbanisation of Hornsey Village, the proprietor (a Mr Spicer) had The Three Compasses rebuilt on the existing site, adding his own accommodation with stables, a coach house and a forge to the rear.

The lighthouse on top of the pub, a Victorian novelty on buildings, still guides the thirsty inside today.
